A unique performance of ‘Songs of the People’: Music from the English Radical Tradition.
Steve Knightley and Phil Beer are joined by renowned historian Michael Wood.
This show celebrates one of England’s great musical traditions and one that has been incredibly influential in world music. From the protest folk songs of Bob Dylan and the Delta blues of Muddy Waters to the blue collar ballads of Bruce Springsteen – these songs of Social Protest all have very English roots.
Michael will provide the background and historical context and Steve and Phil will perform the material. Expect music from the Great Famine and the Peasants Revolt, the English Civil War, the Diggers and the Levellers. Taking in Peterloo, the Chartists and World War One, right up to the present day. Songs that are the sound track to the People’s History and that shine a light on the lives of ordinary men and women through times of struggle and suffering, fighting for the rights that are ours today.
Book with confidence: if we have to cancel any performance, or if you are no longer able to attend the event, you will be able to claim a full refund or request a voucher towards a future purchase.
