Can we bring our own caterers or do our own catering?
It is not possible to bring your own caterers or to self-cater events at Cecil Sharp House. Exceptions can be made for very specialist requirements.

Can we have a hog roast or BBQ?
Yes, please discuss this with Pink Food.

Can we supply our own alcohol?
It is not currently possible to supply your own alcohol at Cecil Sharp House. If you have any specific requirements, please discuss this with Pink Food, who are licenced to supply alcohol at the venue.

Is there a pay bar available?
The bar can operate in a variety of ways. You can chose to have a free bar, where guests can drink unlimited amounts with payment taken after the event; you can place an amount of money behind the bar and once this has been spent the guests can pay for their drinks; or you can have a cash bar for the whole evening. At present there is no cash point located on site, and we do not offer cash-back facilities.

What is the drinking age limit at Cecil Sharp House?
No under 18s will be served any alcohol or be allowed to consume alcohol on the premises. To help caterers and bar-staff we may ask for guests to supply ID before they can purchase alcohol.

How many bar staff will you have during the evening?
Please discus staff allocation with Pink Food.

Your Guests

How many guests can we have?
Kennedy Hall seats up to 200 people for dining. We have tables to seat 120 people, so you would be required to hire in a few extra tables to accommodate more.

Is Cecil Sharp House child friendly?
The garden has a wall around the outside, however it is still very much parents responsibility to watch their children to ensure they are adequately supervised. To make your guests (who have children there) more relaxed we would recommend getting a babysitter for the evening. Setting up the Committee Room as a playroom with things to keep them entertained is a good idea, especially when the adults are dancing downstairs.

We have two highchairs that can be used.

Is the venue accessible for wheelchairs?
Yes it is fully accessible via lift to every level. We also have fully accessible toilets situated on the reception and basement levels.

Are there any local hotels?
There are plenty of hotels in the locality; Cecil Sharp House is situated in Primrose Hill, with Camden Town, Regent's Park and King's Cross being easily accessible.

Is there parking/can guests leave their cars overnight?
Yes, there is limited free parking and guests are welcome to leave their cars overnight with prior arrangement. Vehicles are left at the owner’s risk. We can park up to eight cars. Street parking is free after 6pm on weekdays and all day at weekends.

Cloakroom
Our staff can operate a clockroom at reception.

The Ceremony

Can we have our religious leader conduct a ceremony?
No, A civil ceremony can include readings, songs or music, but must not include anything that’s religious (for example hymns or readings from the Bible or the Torah). You can exchange vows at a civil ceremony if you would like but you do not have to. As approved Camden Council venue for civil ceremonies, a registrar must carry out your wedding in one of our main halls.

Although, we can hold religious blessings, Nikahs, Jewish weddings and commitment ceremonies such as handfastings. For some of these types of ceremony you will also need to organise a civil registration for your marriage to be legally recognized.

Does the hire of the ceremony room include the registrar’s fee?
No, this is extra and you will need to organise this yourself. To check availability or to book a registrar, please contact Camden Registrar’s Office

In which rooms can we get married?
Kennedy Hall and Trefusis Hall are both licensed for civil weddings. Trefusis Hall can seat 120 people and Kennedy Hall can seat 200.

Do you provide chairs for the wedding ceremony?
Yes, we have chairs onsite. You are welcome to hire alternative styles and we can assist with processing the furniture hire order.

Can we get married outside?
We’re afraid British Law does not currently allow outdoor weddings unless the couple are standing under a permanent structure. We don’t currently have the facilities for this.

Have your staff received any training in diversity and inclusion?
Yes, both permanent and contract staff have received training from Attitude is Everything. EFDSS produces information and guidance for our members on making folk events more inclusive and accessible to diverse groups, including gender-free dance calling, and we strive to lead by example.

We operate as a ‘Chilled Venue’ for our public programme of events, welcoming audience members who can’t always sit still and in silence throughout a performance. We are proud to employ a diverse Front of House team, dedicated to making every visitor feel at home.

You can read more about our Equity and Diversity commitment here: www.efdss.org/about/us/what-we-do/diversity

Do you have experience hosting LGBTQ+ focused events?
Yes. We partner with Queer Folk to run the regular Queer Ceilidh Dance Party and the annual Queer Folk Festival.

Do you have gender-neutral toilets?
We have both gender-neutral and gendered toilets available.
Our baby changing facilities are gender-neutral.

Do you have an inclusion policy?
Read our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion policy here: www.efdss.org/images/ present/Docs/Documentation/EFDSS-EDI-Policy.pdf

Speeches, Music and Dancing

Do you have a PA system in the wedding breakfast room?
Within the wedding package a basic PA set up is included. This is 2 x 15” EV Speakers, an 8 or 16 channel mixing desk, two wireless mics, and two wired mics. This will be set up by our team and can be used for speeches, background music or by your DJ/ Band. This does not include sound engineering/ monitoring.

Alternatively, we offer a Concert PA package upgrade, which includes our full d&b sound system set up (tech spec available upon request) with a dedicated engineer, This is priced at £570 Incl. VAT.

We have to be considerate towards our neighbours and have a sound limiter installed ensure music remains within our 90Db sound limit.

Can we have our own DJ or live music?
As a music venue we welcome live bands and DJs, and they are welcome to use the PA Package, as part of the basic package.
It is not possible to have amplified sound in the garden.

Can we have a barn dance, line dancing, Scottish reels or a ceilidh?
There is plenty of room and we have a sprung wood floor in Kennedy hall that is appropriate for these styles of dance. We can also help in directing you towards bands and callers.

What are the closing times?
Cecil Sharp House is in a residential area, so has a strict music curfew of 10.30pm where all amplified sound must be turned off. We can apply for a late license for indoor activity to continue beyond 11pm. There is no access to the garden after 9pm.

Furniture and Decorations

What kind of decorations can we bring?
Fairy lights, bunting and potted plants work well. Unfortunately, we are unable to hang things from the ceiling or across the middle of the hall.

Is confetti permitted?
We only permit biodegradable confetti at Cecil Sharp House, such as dried flower petals. Confeffi can only be used outside.

What time can we have access to decorate the venue on our wedding day?
Your hire starts at 9am, from which time Cecil Sharp House and the garden is exclusively yours.

Can we have access to the venue the day before our event?
If we do not have any bookings the day before your wedding then we may be able to let you access Cecil Sharp House to put up your decorations. Please be aware that this is not always possible and you may have to fit around other hirers.

Are we able to leave items for collection after the wedding?
This will depend on bookings taking place in the days following your wedding. You will be advised nearer the event as to when you will need to remove your decorations and collect your items. Please be aware that there is limited storage at Cecil Sharp House so we are not able to store belongings for long periods of time.

Do you supply tables and chairs, crockery and glasses?
We have 15 trestle tables (seating up to 120 people) and over 300 stackable, theatre style chairs available for use at Cecil Sharp House. Our 6ft tables can seat three on each side and one person at each end. If you require alternative furniture, such as round tables, then this will need to be hired at your expense. We are happy to coordinate the delivery and collection of any furniture you require.

Pink Food will discuss the provision of crockery, glasses and table cloths, but it is likely that the hire of these items will be added to the catering bill.

Can we have a marquee?
Yes. Our garden is a formal lawn that is cared for by a dedicated team. To ensure it can be enjoyed by all our hirers we ask that you don’t place any furniture on the lawn without protective matting being placed on the grass. This also includes marquees, since any fixings placed into the garden can damage the grass or other plants.

Make your wedding truly special

From its rich cultural heritage to its elegant interiors and charming garden, Cecil Sharp House is one of the most unique and versatile wedding venues for hire in London.

Whether you’re planning a grand celebration or an intimate affair, our team will work closely with you to create a wedding day that reflects your style and story.
