With our Artists’ Development programme, we champion diverse and talented professionals working in the folk arts of England.

We embrace innovation by providing training and support to artists at all stages of their careers. Everything in our Artists’ Development programme is designed to foster and sustain excellence in our vibrant and world-leading cultural sector.

The English Folk Dance and Song Society has a fantastic reputation for supporting emerging artists and encouraging artist collaboration and so being able to affiliate an album project with the organisation helped greatly

Emily Mae Winters, Seed Funding Bursary holder 2017/18

Join our mailing list to hear about Artists’ Development Opportunities

In recent years we have commissioned and supported many new works covering a broad range of music and dance.

Our work is currently supported by Arts Council England, PRS Foundation and Help Musicians UK. This has included professional development residential courses, performance development days, mentoring and more.

We are a founding partner of English Folk Expo (EFEx).

We wouldn’t have been able to afford this album without the bursary. This project has been in the pipeline for a number of years, but we have never had the financial backing to create this work to its best potential. Thanks to the bursary, we have been able to take time from gigging to properly develop material and had enough money to produce a high quality product

Tom Moore & Archie Churchill-Moss, Creative Bursary holders 2017/18

Whenever you lead or organise an event – whether you volunteer or are paid – you have a duty of care towards everyone who is involved.

We work to promote best practice in safeguarding, to support those in the sector by signposting helpful sources of advice, and to facilitate honest discussion and positive action. Read more
