The English Folk Dance and Song Society (Registered Charity number 305999), along with so many other arts, cultural and heritage organisations, is facing exceptionally uncertain times.
Our everyday charitable work is hugely subsidised by hiring out Cecil Sharp House when it is not being used for folk activities. Nearly all of this expected income for 2020 and spring 2021 has now been lost.
The summer 2020 announcement of £1.5billion rescue funding to the cultural sector was greatly welcomed. But we did not fit the criteria for any of these support schemes, because we are not in imminent danger of insolvency. We have not yet spent all of the reserves which we had carefully built up over the years, and which we now have to use to cover our monthly losses.
We predict being in a much-weakened financial position when we are finally able to resume in full. But, with your support, we will continue to undertake the work that we know people want and need – and for which the English Folk Dance and Song Society exists.
Are you able to help us through this crisis?
A donation of any amount will help enormously to see EFDSS through this crisis and continue to support and deliver folk arts activities in to the future.
Donate now
Regular donations help us to plan long-term projects which will keep the folk arts flourishing for future generations. If you would like to make a regular gift, you can join the Future of Folk. £10 a month would ensure that more people can join in the folk arts, more folk teachers will be supported, and more artists will receive help at crucial stages in their careers.
You could support our stability in the longer-term by leaving a legacy to fund our activities in years to come.
Thank you!
