For ninety years, English folk music and dance have had an official home in central London.
Cecil Sharp House was declared open in June 1930 as the custom-built headquarters of the Folk Dance Society. Since then, countless people have visited the House to develop their passion for – and to expand their knowledge of – everything folk.
How many romances have blossomed on the dance-floor of Kennedy Hall? How many thousands of contented hours have been spent in dedicated research at the Vaughan Williams Memorial Library? How many gigs have been enjoyed, and choruses sung, and instruments raised to learn yet another new-but-old tune?
Do you have recollections of Cecil Sharp House that you’d like to share with our members? Do you have photos taken here in years gone by – documentation of formal gatherings, or snaps taken in the bar, or anything in between? We would love to add them to our archives, and we’ll aim to publish some of them too.
Please send your written and photographic memories by email to [email protected], or by post to Cecil Sharp House, 2 Regent’s Park Road, London NW1 7AY (but please don’t send original photographs).
If you’re within travelling distance of London, we hope to see you at Cecil Sharp House at some point during our 90th birthday year.
