With funding from Help Musicians, over the next two years we are looking for six excellent artists to be a musician in residence at one of these museums and explore the creative links between the tangible culture and history of the museum collections and artefacts and the intangible culture and history of folk songs and tunes.
The residencies are spread over a 12 month period and each artist will receive a bursary of £5000 to develop a new music work to be performed at the end of the residency and deliver outreach activities to engage people with the museums and with folk music.
The first residency will be with the National Coal Mining Museum in Wakefield, starting in the autumn 2017. The residencies with NMM and MERL will be advertised in September for a January 2018 start.

National Coal Mining Museum for England, Wakefield, Yorkshire
Period - Late September/early October 2017 for 12 months
National Maritime Museum, Greenwich
Period - January 2018 for 12 months
Museum of English Rural Life, Reading
Period – January/February 2018 for 12 months

Applications are now been accepted for the residency with the National Coal Mining Museum, closing date for which is Monday 31 July 2017. Interviews will be on 12/13 September at the NCMM.
Applications for the residencies at National Maritime Museum and Museum of English Rural Life will be advertised in September.
