Artist bursaries for 2018/19 now open for applications

Tuesday 13th of March 2018

Artists at any stage of their careers are invited to apply for funding to pursue creative projects, as part of our Artists’ Development programme.

Last year’s round of funding saw:

  • The creation of Alex Vann’s (Spiro) instrumental concert trio Rock of Eye, using traditional English tunes as the basis fospiro
  • r improvisation
  • A new album, Laguna, of devised improvisations based in English folk traditions from Tom Moore and Archie Churchill-Moss (Moore Moss Rutter)
  • Alma and Nick Hennessey's developing an ensemble performance between musicians and storytellers
  • Rowan Piggott exploring existing and writing new songs relating to bees and the environment, Songhive project.
  • Seed funding was also provided to musicians  Emily Mae Winters, Heg Brignall (Heg & The Wolf Chorus) and India Electric Company to research and develop new work based on a variety of chosen themes.

 
Seed Funding

The EFDSS Creative Seed Funding is an award of £750 to be given to three artists/groups of artists who wish to explore new creative ideas in the genre of English folk music.

The award is aimed at artists in the early stages of their professional career and for whom this support will to enable them to undertake a creative exploration that will help foster their career develop as a professional folk musician working in the English folk idiom

Creative Bursaries 

The EFDSS Creative Bursary and Residency Programme, now in its sixth year, aims to support artists in exploring new creative ideas inspired by and sourced from traditional English folk music. This programme provides artists with an opportunity to undertake creative exploration without the pressure of a final product.

The deadlines for submitted applications are Friday 27 April 2018 for Seed Funding and Monday 30 April 2018 for Creative Bursary for residencies to be taken between September 2018 and March 2019.

Completed applications should be sent via email to [email protected] or posted to Zoe Nicol, Artists’ Development Manager, Cecil Sharp House, 2 Regent’s Park Road, London NW1 7AY.

The successful candidates will be announced in May 2018.
