New issue of English Dance and Song available now

Wednesday 30th of March 2016

Sweet Liberties, an EFDSS project commissioned by Parliament, delves into the long history of English democracy spanning back more than 800 years. Read about how it came together and where artists Nancy Kerr, Martyn Joseph, Sam Carter and Maz O’Connor found inspiration for their songs.

After more than a decade blowing stages away, Bellowhead say farewell as their final tour comes to a close in May. New editor Natalya Catton Wilson catches up with them to find out what’s next for its members.

Natalya also chats to Teesside trio The Young’uns to find out how they discovered folk music.

Dr Lucy Wright discovers what girls’ ‘carnival’ - or ‘fluffy’ - morris is all about, while Colin Hume celebrates 20 years of Cambridge Contra Dance.

In the first of a new series of features about how important your local pub is to your folk club (and vice versa), Richard Catton visits The Black Swan Folk Club in York.

Gwilym Davies discusses The Single Gloucester, a new archive project.

The renovation of Kennedy Hall is underway – Maxie Gedge tracks its progress and what still needs to be done.

EFDSS is looking for talented young musicians to be part of the new National Youth Folk Ensemble – find out how you can become part of it.

Read about how Rollo Woods and John Tams were presented with their Gold Badges.

Plus there are regular features including news, festival round-up, future dance events, lives remembered and much more.
