Extended programme of holiday courses for young people at Cecil Sharp House

Monday 14th of September 2015

The English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS) is delighted to announce its extended programme of holiday courses for young people this October half term.

We are excited to introduce Get Your Folk On! Plus – our new course for disabled 12-19 year olds and their siblings and friends. Participants will explore and create folk music and song together in an inclusive, sensory environment.

We will also be running our usual holiday courses – Fun With Folk, Get Your Folk On! Juniors and Get Your Folk On! and are thrilled that Folk Dance Remixed will be joining us once again for Folk Hop -  a dynamic day of folk dance fused with hip hop.

To gain a sense of how enjoyable and educational our courses are, read the below review by one of our youth participants:

The Get Your Folk On! courses at Cecil Sharp House are always the highlight of the holidays for me. The atmosphere there is amazing: everyone is so supportive of each other, and at break times you often get people playing along to a tune they've never heard before with people they've never met! As well as being enormous fun, the courses are also hugely educational. Looking back to a year ago when I first started coming, I've progressed massively since then; I can now learn tunes by ear, join in with and create harmonies to a tune/song I've never heard and even dance and play for a ceilidh! The tutors (besides being very talented and friendly!) are very accommodating of every individual on the courses: nobody is ever left behind or left without something to do, and if you have a specific request: learning more about sea shanties or clogs for example, they will do their very best to try and include that!

Aaron Cuthbertson (age 14), Get Your Folk On! participant
