Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the publication of Marrow Bones

2015 sees the 50th Anniversary of the first publication of Marrow Bones, Frank Purslow’s collection of English Folk Songs, which quickly became one of the most significant resources for a generation of singers.

As a tribute to Frank, and to mark the anniversary, Trevor Hewett and Sheila Thackwray have put together a programme of Marrow Bones events at folk clubs and festivals during 2015.

The events will include:

  • Marrow Bones Singaround – a song session giving floor singers an opportunity to perform their choice of song from the collection.
  • Marrow Bones Workshop – A more detailed look at a selection of the songs, exploring different ways of performing them.
  • Marrow Bones Concert
  • “Marrow-Thon” – Singing all 100 of the songs in the book, in one rolling session!

 

The events will raise funds for "Anthony Nolan" Bone Marrow Charity.
