Time Out readers voted Cecil Sharp House as the second best place in the capital to see live music in the 2014 London Music Awards.
Programme highlights include:
- The only performance in England of Beyond The Marches, a new music collaboration featuring six of the finest young contemporary folk artists from Wales and England including Georgia Ruth

Beyond the Marches

Presented by six of the finest young folk musicians from Wales and England, this will be the only English performance of a joint commission by EFDSS and trac (Folk Development Wales) featuring Georgia Ruth Williams, Elan Rhys, Patrick Rimes, Lucy Ward, Archie Churchill-Moss and David Gibb. The artists will explore and celebrate the shared history and culture of the two nations and collaborate on new interpretations of traditional music, weaved together in their own inimitable style.

The Full English

Featuring Fay Hield, Seth Lakeman, Martin Simpson, Nancy Kerr, Sam Sweeney, Rob Harbron and Ben Nicholls.
The Full English is a groundbreaking project delivered by EFDSS, drawing together the most important early 20th century collections into the most comprehensive searchable database of British folk songs, tunes, dances and customs in the world. Spearheaded by Fay Hield, The Full English band has delved into the archives and turned some of those dusty old pages into vibrant new sound. This homecoming show at Cecil Sharp House will be the group’s last ever performance, set to be an apt and celebratory farewell!

Lady Maisery

The Young’uns

It is going to be a busy year for The Young’uns. In 2015 they will release their new album, Another Man’s Ground, collectively celebrate their 30th birthday, and attend the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards with a nomination for ‘Best Group’. Displaying irrepressible humour, an infectious love for harmony singing, passion for storytelling and commitment to maintaining the tradition of social commentary, the band have quickly become one of the most sought after acts on the English folk scene.

Emily Portman Trio

Cecil Sharp House Choir - Summer Concert & CD Launch

Join us to celebrate the launch of our thriving Cecil Sharp House Choir’s first ever CD recording! The Choir will be singing a selection of glorious a capella harmony arrangements of traditional songs from the British Isles and beyond, mostly arranged by its inspiring leader Sally Davies. The concert and CD will draw on the best of the choir’s repertoire, created over the past seven years since it was established in 2008. CDs will be available to purchase on the night.

The Takeover! - a free concert showcasing London’s emerging young folk talent

The culmination of an afternoon of sessions, open mic and music making, hosted by the London Youth Folk Ensemble, EFDSS’ resident youth folk collective based at Cecil Sharp House. See young folk bands from across the capital showcasing London’s emerging young folk talent. The event is supported by Youth Music and uses public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

The Stray Birds

The Stray Birds are one of the hottest bands to emerge from the US roots music circuit in recent times. They have built a solid fan base from a steady touring schedule and appearances at some of the biggest Stateside festivals. The band have won hearts on this side of the Atlantic too, winning invitations to play at events such as Glasgow’s Celtic Connections festival and Tonder Festival in Denmark. With the release of the new album, Best Medicine, the trio show no signs of slowing down.
