Final two weeks of youth folk music mapping survey – deadline 20 March!

Friday 6th of March 2015

Influential figures from all over the country have so far participated in our youth folk music mapping survey…

We have received some fantastic responses, but it’s not too late to have an input; fill in our survey now.  We are calling for information on youth folk music projects across England to help us embark on the development of a national youth folk music ensemble.

To see the locations of the wide range of organisations and individuals who have already taken part, take a look at the map below. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to put your activities on the map!

Participants on the map...

We’ve received some really positive responses about a wide range of projects, founded as far back as 1980, and from key figures in youth folk music. As well as these influential and long-running ventures, lots of brand new projects founded just this year have been submitted, which is really exciting.  A range of activities from ceilidh bands to folk festivals and playing for morris sides are being offered to young people as young as 4, right through to 25 years old.

We’ve heard from many areas including Devon, Southampton, Leeds, Newcastle and Cambridge – and if you want to make sure your voice is heard then please do make sure that you and your group or organisation respond before 20 March 2015!

A full report summarising findings from the survey written by Sound Connections will be freely available from the EFDSS website in May 2015.

More information about our plans for the national youth folk music ensemble

With young people at the heart of the programme, the ensemble will be an opportunity to build on the work of existing folk groups from across the country and collaborate with organisations to create a national collective of talented young folk musicians.
