Anglo Canadian artist exchanges line up autumn tours

Thursday 28th of August 2014

Two UK tours featuring English and Canadian artists in unique collaborations will take place this Autumn. English folk musicians Bella Hardy and Dan Walsh team up with Canadian counterparts Cara Luft and Meaghan Blanchard.

BBC Radio 2 Folk Singer of the Year 2014 Bella Hardy reunites with Juno award-winning singer-songwriter guitarist Cara Luft for an eight-date tour, following their creative residency in Alberta, Canada, in 2013.

Dan Walsh, one of the UK’s top banjo players, and Canadian singer-songwriter Meaghan Blanchard will reprise their partnership for eight dates on the back of a 2013 tour of Canada’s Prince Edward Island.

Promoted by the English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS) and partner venues /promoters, in collaboration with Music PEI (Prince Edward Island) and Folk Music Canada, these tours are borne out of a developing relationship between England and Canada, which supports artists’ development and collaboration.

As well as performing solo material on the tours, the musicians will showcase new music that they written collaboratively during the first leg of their exchanges.

Neil Pearson, EFDSS Artist Development and Programming Manager, said: “The English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS) is proud of its growing links with Canada and of the collaborative artist development opportunities we are creating.

“These two collaborations with MusicPEI and Folk Music Canada saw Dan Walsh and Bella Hardy work with significant artists in Eastern and Western Canada, create new material and embark upon successful tours and showcasing opportunities.

“We are thrilled to welcome both pairings to the UK this autumn, giving audiences an opportunity to see these one-off shows and hear the new music that has been written.”
