Enrol for our autumn classes and courses at Cecil Sharp House

Music, dance, singing and other folk traditions explored at all levels at Cecil Sharp House

 

We are dlighted to announce our autumn season of education activities at Cecil Sharp House including classes, courses and workshops based on traditional English folk arts for children, young people, adults and families.

 

New activities include

  • A folk choir, meeting fortnightly for people who want to learn to sing by ear
  • A one-day conference to train people to teach morris dancing to children and young people 
  • The chance for young people to get involved in the London Folk Ensemble and play and perform together across the capital 
 

 

Other popular activities make a welcome return including

  • Holiday folk music making courses for children and young people
  • Our ever-popular Saturday Folk Music Workshops
  • Our weekly English Country Dancing drop-in classes

Monday Musicians
Mondays 8 September | 13 October | 10 November | 8 December, 7 - 10pm 
 
 
Monday Folk Choir Workshops *NEW CLASS*
Mondays 6, 20 October | 3, 17 November | 1 December, 7 - 9pm 
A new opportunity to explore choral folk song arrangements in a relaxed and friendly environment. These five fortnightly sessions are suitable for singers of all abilities, without the pressure and commitment of public performance. All material is taught by ear.
 
 
Morris Dancing
Tuesdays 9 September to 16 December, 6.30 - 9pm 
Beginners: 6.30 - 8pm | Improvers and advanced: 7 - 9pm
 
Cecil Sharp House Choir
Autumn term
Wednesdays 24 September to 17 December (no classes on 29 October), 7 - 9pm 
 
 
English Country Dancing 
Thursdays 4 September to 11 December, 7.30 - 10pm 
 
 
Saturday Folk Music Workshops

Get Your Folk On!
A three day creative course of fabulous folk music-making 
Monday 18 to Friday 22 August, 10.30 – 4.30pm (6pm on Friday)
 
 
London Folk Ensemble 2014/15
Welcoming 12 - 18 year old musicians who want to create and perform amazing folk music together! The Ensemble meets monthly from October to July, and performs at exciting events across London and beyond. Being a member is an annual commitment for which there is a fee.
 
 

Conferences

 
More Morris, Better Morris – in schools and beyond 
Sunday 2 November, 11am - 5pm
A dynamic day of presentations and practical sessions on the delivery of high-quality morris dance workshops. For morris dancers who teach, or are interested in teaching, morris to young people – in schools and out-of-school settings.
