Five-date tour for Sam Carter & Catherine MacLellan this October

Friday 4th of October 2013

Anglo-Canadian Collaboration to tour UK

The results of an Anglo-Canadian collaboration by England’s Sam Carter and Canadian Catherine MacLellan will be premiered in the UK in October with a five-date tour.

Sam and Catherine on tourSam, who won a BBC Folk Award for best newcomer in 2010, travelled to Catherine’s home town of Prince Edward Island (PEI) in September 2012 for a week long residency as part of the English Folk Dance and Song Society’s (EFDSS) Artist Development Programme, in partnership with Music PEI.

The singer songwriters created new material, which was presented to delegates at the Showcase PEI International Conference before a short tour of Atlantic Canada.

They reunite to continue their creative collaboration in October for a UK tour, which is supported by the Canada House Arts Trust.

Catherine MacLellan

EFDSS’ international development work

The Canadian projects are part of the EFDSS artists’ development activity that focuses on developing international markets and creative opportunities for English folk artists. As part of our relationship with Atlantic Canada, EFDSS hosted a showcase of artists from PEI, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Nova Scotia at Cecil Sharp House in November 2012. We also co-programmed a showcase room for UK and Canadian artists at Folk Alliance International 2013.

In 2013 EFDSS is partnering with Folk Music Canada on a further exchange programme. English folk artist Bella Hardy will travel to Alberta in September to collaborate with Canadian artist Cara Luft. They will perform at the BreakOut West showcase in Calgary, followed by a short tour around Alberta. In autumn 2014 Cara will work and tour with Bella in the UK. Bella will be our first Douglas Kennedy International Fellow.
