In partnership with Lisa Heywood’s Callers’ Chat project, the Folk Education Network presents 'Focus on Calling', an evening of Continued Professional Development (CPD) and networking for Callers

This event is aimed at dance callers, from any genre and of any level of experience, and working in any context, from weddings to schools to community events and festivals. There will be talks and interactive activities, and opportunities to ask questions and contribute to discussions.
The event will take place over two hours, with two short breaks. You can attend with your camera on or off and take part as much as you’d like.
Places are FREE, and must be booked in advance.
Programme
7.30pm - 7.40pm Welcome and introduction
7.40pm - 8.05pm Rachel, Jen and Kerry will present a short case study of their dance journeys, professional development and current roles at EFDSS, including signposting to continuing professional development suitable for folk dance Callers and teachers.
5 min break
8.10pm - 8.50pm Lisa Heywood - Caller Training. Lisa will lead us through some discussion based exercises exploring different aspects of calling, with a chance to reflect on successes and address challenges.

8.55pm - 9.05pm Jen will lead us through the EFDSS Folk Dance calendar and how you can utilise it for your events.
9.05pm - 9.25pm Group discussion - we’ll go into smaller groups to discuss the topics of the session and then back into one large group to feedback

Who is Lisa Heywood?
Lisa Heywood has been teaching folk dancing at weddings, parties, festivals and other events for over 10 years. Her mission is to make dancing a safe, accessible and welcoming activity for everyone, uses gender-free dance instructions and has a Safer Spaces Policy setting out how everyone can work together to make events safe and welcoming for all.
What is the Folk Education Network?
The Folk Education Network is for everyone involved in, or interested in, folk arts education in any context – including those working in schools, with youth groups, in adult learning and/or community settings.
Although aimed at folk arts educators in England, practitioners from across the UK and beyond are welcome to join.
