New ‘Folk’ Pin to be Sent to All Personal Members

Friday 13th of October 2023

We are delighted to share that in the coming months, all current and new personal members will be receiving our new folk pin in the post!

The beautiful artwork for the pin was especially commissioned from signwriter and artist Amy Goodwin. Amy specialises in traditional, hand-made methods of illustration, heavily influenced by the typography historically found in West Country fairgrounds. The featured illustration, along with further charming artworks, are currently being exhibited at Cecil Sharp House. We are honoured to be able to feature this skilful piece of folk art and share its beauty with all our members.

The English Folk Dance and Song Society has many members across the globe – most of whom are active participants in folk music, song, dance, storytelling, and traditions. We believe that expanding and nurturing this membership base is a crucial component of all the work that we do to champion the folk arts at the heart of England’s cultural landscape. Through gestures such as our new pins, we seek to communicate to prospective and current members alike that joining EFDSS is about more than just providing annual support for our work - it’s also about joining a vibrant and far-reaching community of folk advocates.

No matter how or why our members have come to support the folk arts, we hope our new pins will serve as a small but significant symbol of their connection to our welcoming membership community. We look forward to spotting the pins being worn in action at music and cultural events, and we hope they can serve as a helpful method for members to identify each other as fellow folk advocates!

Not yet a member of EFDSS? Our new Starter Membership offers a way to show how much you care about the folk arts for only £2 a month (£24 annually).

Membership subscriptions provide immediate and valuable financial benefit. But even more than that, they prove that so many people value the folk arts – helping us to secure support from funding partners. Our personal members are valued advocates and supporters in championing the folk arts of England.

From 2024 most memberships will be Gift Aidable, meaning that if you are a UK taxpayer your subscription can be worth an extra 25% to us, at no additional cost to you. Sign up now to receive your pin and join the community.
