For more than 10 years, the Broadside Day, organised jointly by the Traditional Song Forum and the English Folk Dance and Song Society, has been the gathering place for people interested in street literature and cheap print - broadsides, chapbooks, prints, tracts, penny histories, woodcuts, and so on.
Our meetings have been held in London, Manchester, Oxford, Cambridge, Sheffield, and Glasgow, and next year’s was to be in Birmingham, but it seems clear that physical meetings will be impossible for some time to come. So in 2021 we will be online. The exact details have yet to be finalised, but the conference will be taking place on Saturday 20 February 2021.
The upside of the situation, of course, is that we can hope for papers from people who can’t normally travel to the UK, so we should have an exceptionally good line-up this year.
We would therefore be pleased to receive submissions for 20-minute papers on any aspect of cheap print and street literature. Closing date: 8th December 2020.
Most of our papers are concerned with Britain and Ireland, or English-language traditions elsewhere, but we always have one or two from further afield, so we would welcome suggestions from other places.
