Cecil Sharp House and Covid-19

Tuesday 17th of March 2020

Last updated 11 November 2020

With great regret, we have cancelled public events taking place at Cecil Sharp House until January 2021.

Our thoughts are with all those who are being most directly affected by the coronavirus pandemic. We are closely monitoring the situation and following government, NHS and Public Health England guidance. Based on their most recent advice, public events at Cecil Sharp House up to and including 31 December have been cancelled, rescheduled or moved online. This includes all gigs and educational activities presented by the English Folk Dance and Song Society, and all public events by other promoters which were due to be presented at the venue.

Cecil Sharp House is now Covid-secure. Our halls are available to hire for permitted work activities – including rehearsals, filming and private meetings.

Most of our regular education activities are still taking place online. This includes most of our classes and courses at Cecil Sharp House, residencies by the National Youth Folk Ensemble, youth folk sessions and educators’ development days. Read more

The Vaughan Williams Memorial Library is closed to visitors in person. Its online resources will continue to be available and our Library staff will answer enquiries by This email address is being protected from spambots. We hope to start opening the building for some public events from January.

In the meantime, we continue celebrating English Folk online – please look out for updates on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

If you have bought tickets for any cancelled events, you should have heard from us about your entitlement to a full refund.

Alternatively you can choose to support our charitable activities in these unprecedentedly uncertain times by:

  • Transferring the full amount you have paid into a gift to the English Folk Dance and Song Society
  • Saving your credit for a future purchase of your choice
  • Claiming a full refund

If we have already been able to reschedule the event, we shall transfer your ticket to its new date unless you instruct otherwise.

It will take some time to contact all customers – thank you for your patience and understanding.

You can also let us know how you would like to proceed by completing this form.

We are especially grateful for any general donations to our ongoing running costs at this difficult time.
