Funding opportunity: The Mars Milk Fund

Calling all folk artists, singers, dancers and clubs!

Food manufacturer Mars has announced that it is awarding four grants of £300 to clubs, groups and individuals every week until 6 October 2013. The aim of the Mars Milk Fund is to encourage people to be more active, to try something new or simply keeping alive some of the nation’s favourite sports and hobbies.

Music of the Sea: a season of rousing, traditional maritime folk music events

To celebrate the opening Nelson, Navy, Nation – a new National Maritime Museum (NMM) permanent gallery that tells the story of the Royal Navy and the British people between 1688–1815 on Trafalgar Day, 21 October 2013 – the English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS) the National Maritime Museum (NMM) have co-curated Music of the Sea.

The season was co-curated in collaboration between NMM staff, led by Andrea Cunningham, Head of Informal Learning & Access, and James Davey, Curator of Naval History, with EFDSS staff, Malcolm Taylor, Library Director and Rachel Elliott, Education Director. Scholar Roy Palmer, helped to inform the selection of songs, and Neil Pearson, EFDSS Artist Development and Programming Manager, the artists.’

Pre-Raphaelite pilgrimage and folk infused party

This autumn the English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS), the National Trust and Curiocity magazine will be embarking on a day-long pilgrimage from Borough High Street to William Morris' Red House in Bexleyheath, followed by a garden party with folk music, a hog roast and ale.

From September the English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS) and renowned national folklore expert, lecturer and editor, Steve Roud will hit the road – visiting Lincoln, Leeds, London, Bury, Gateshead, Bristol, Birmingham, Milton Keynes, Cambridge and Sheffield – touring day-long Saturday study days.
