exCHANGES: Morris/Contemporary dance project (2009)

Led by morris practitioner and teacher Anthony Allen and contemporary choreographer Kate Flatt, this week-long English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS) course aimed to engaged contemporary based dancers and choreographers with the folk dance form of Cotswold morris and provide an opportunity for creative exploration of this form.

Four choreographers were selected from an open application to work with seventeen dancers (contemporary and folk) and four folk musicians. The choreographers, Adesola Akinleye, Bim Malcomson, Yael Lowenstein and Keiran Sheehan created sketches of choreography which were performed to an invited audience of 30 people at the end of the week.

"I attended a stunning presentation of this five day experimental workshops… It very respectfully explore the Morris as a resource for contemporary dance. One amazing acrobatic interpretation explored a fusion of Morris meets Street Dance, and inspirational wow for our younger potential jiggers." Paul Reece, Morris Ring
