Kerry Fletcher, the English Folk Dance and Song Society's(EFDSS) Folk Educators Group Co-ordinator and freelance folk dance artist, has recently been awarded one of 21 national places on Dance UK’s new Dance Teaching Mentoring Programme.
Ahead of her gig at Cecil Sharp House on 30 January, we ask Maz O'Connor about her year-long BBC Performing Art Fund Fellowship with the English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS), her 2013 highlights and what lies in store for the coming year.
As part of the English Folk Dance and Song Society's (EFDSS) strategic showcase programme, we head to WOMEX 13 - the world music expo - which took place in Cardiff between 23 and 27 October. Three of the EFDSS team (Katy Spicer, Chief Executive; Neil Pearson, Artist Development and Programming Manager; and Sophia Linehan, Marketing & Communications Director) attended the conference, promoting England 's thriving traditional folk music to music buyers from venues and festivals, as well as musicians, from around the world. WOMEX had not been in the UK since 2005, when Gateshead played host, so this was a great opportunity to spotlight folk and traditional music from the British Isles on a world-class platform.
