English Dance and Song, Spring 2017

Summer edition of EDS now available

Summer’s arrived and that means there are lots of great folk festivals to enjoy – come rain or shine!

Jeremy Searle

In this edition of EDS, Jeremy Searle chats to Becky and John Marshall-Potter about FolkEast – theirs is a fascinating tale, selling their house to fund the festival they’ve put so much faith in.

Keele Folk Festival

In our regular Way We Were feature, Natalya Catton Wilson looks back to the height of the ‘folk revival’ at 1965’s Keele Folk Festival.

And there’s a round up of when and where this summer’s folk festivals are taking place.

Dartmoor Step Dancing

There are plenty of stories and features to whet the appetites of dancers, from a new step dancing project that’s kicking off in Dartmoor, to the revival of Dancing England.

Sandra Kerr discusses the experience of singing folk songs in community choirs; Jacqueline Patten talks to Geoff Lakeman about his family’s forays into folk music, and Stephanie West describes an art exhibition based on Doc Rowe’s vast collection of ephemera.

There are also regular features including news, reviews, dance events, lives remembered and much more.

The Summer 2017 edition is available to order via our folkshop.
