Next Folk Educators Group meeting on 20 November at Yorkshire Dance in Leeds

The next Folk Educators Group (FEG) one-day meeting takes place on Friday 20 November 2015 at Yorkshire Dance in Leeds and will be hosted by Rebecca Gross and David Owen. The meeting will run from 11am until 5pm with tea, with coffee and networking from 10am.

The day will include presentations from local vibrant organisations: Heidi Johnson, Director of NYMAZ, North Yorkshire youth music development charity and Gail Dudson, Director of Yorkshire Youth & Music. Jacqui Wickes of Ossett Observer will be talking about arts fundraising, essential in the current climate with less funding available. We will have guests from Yorkshire Dance too so there will be an opportunity to meet these organisations and let them know about your work and ideas!

We will be inspired by the wonderful work of Ruth Wild, her session is titled ‘Integrating folk music with strength and depth though a music hub’, we’ll be getting involved in practical workshops with the legendary Boff Whalley, formerly Chumbawumba, inspiring young people to write protest songs; and with the irrepressible and dynamic Rebecca Gross and fabulous leading visual artist David Owen, he of the 5,000 morris dancers storm troopers, who will be getting us song writing and singing, as well as telling us about their new folk arts organisation Flash Company.

There will be an update of EFDSS’ exciting new ventures - National Youth Folk Ensemble with Sarah Jones and an introduction to Laura Connolly, our new Dance Development Manager.

We encourage members to bring their own visual art work and will make a Pop Up Gallery for the day in our space!

After the meeting, there is a chance for the conversation to continue over dinner and at a session in the Chemic Tavern.
