Come one, come all and join us for a sing-a-round to celebrate the launch of The Wanton Seed – English Folk Songs from the Hammond and Gardiner Manuscripts.
Having started the year brilliantly by being named Best Group in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, The Young'uns bring their unique brand of close-harmony singing and irresistible sense of humour to a sold out show at Cecil Sharp House on 27 May. We had a chat with them in the beautiful grounds of St Christopher's Church in Haslemere.
As well as being half of the award-winning duo The Askew Sisters (who are celebrating their tenth anniversary this year with a special show at the Foundling Museum on 11 September), Hazel Askew is one of the three voices of Lady Maisery. A unique ensemble centred around close-harmony singing, Lady Maisery are set to play at Cecil Sharp House on Thursday 21 May. Ahead of the show, we had a chat with Hazel about the band, influences and musicianship.
The Full English band was put together to celebrate the launch of the digital archive of the same name by the English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS). Following a hugely successful album, two BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and well-received concerts around the country, the band are about to embark on their final tour. We had an extended chat with Fay Hield about the band, the archive and the songs contained therein.
