Folk guitar workshop

Twenty guitarists find new tunings and techniques at their fingertips

We had a wonderful day on Sunday 22 February welcoming guitarists from across the country to our first Folk Guitar Workshop. Under the tuition of folk guitarist and singer, Gavin Davenport, the course explored playing styles from the English tradition.

"This has opened up a new window in my musical education"

The workshop started with students retuning their guitars to an open tuning, and then getting to grips with all of the new opportunities at their fingertips. Gavin led the group through different approaches to accompanying songs and sessions, demonstrating the exciting ways that open tuning can be used. Guitarists went on to learn to play a melody and accompany each other using melodic and chordal techniques as well as exploring easy ways to accompany themselves and others when singing or playing in sessions.

"Excellent, clear, engaging and interesting!"

Interested in learning folk guitar? Our next workshop is on Sunday 22 November 2015. Find out more.
