Plans are progressing for a packed year of 2018/19 activities by the National Youth Folk Ensemble. These talented young folk musicians from across England are the third cohort of the Ensemble, and the final year-group to work with the Ensemble’s inaugural Artistic Director, Sam Sweeney.
Following a week’s residency in North Yorkshire, Leveret and the National Youth Folk Ensemble will present a free performance at Giggleswick School’s Richard Whiteley Theatre in Settle on Thursday 21 February 2019 (1.15–3pm). Youth music charity NYMAZ will live-stream the event to schools around North Yorkshire, and online at connectresound.live. You can book your free tickets now.
Tickets are on sale now for the Ensemble’s next London gig – at Cecil Sharp House, the headquarters of the English Folk Dance and Song Society and the spiritual home of English folk – on Thursday 11 April 2019.
Registration will open in January for free Youth Folk Sampler Days around England between 25 May and 2 June 2019. At these creative folk music workshops, 14-18 year old instrumentalists can explore English folk music, learn from inspiring tutors, and play with other young musicians. Participants also have the option to audition for the National Youth Folk Ensemble.
Watch out for announcements about exciting summer festival dates!
A few places are still available for a free Running a Youth Folk Ensemble professional development day for music educators, in Exeter on Friday 18th January 2019. The Ensemble’s artistic team will share approaches to running youth folk ensembles, to reflect on learning methods, and to celebrate good practice.
