Penny whistle

Penny Whistle

Penny Whistle Level 1/2 (Absolute beginners/beginners)

The penny whistle (or tin whistle) is a six-holed, metal or sometimes wooden wind instrument played in traditional folk music across Ireland, Britain and beyond. It is most commonly found in the key of D, which will be used in this class.

The penny whistle is part of a wider family of similar instruments found and played in many cultures around the world which includes the recorder, tabor, txistu (from the Basque region) and Native American flute. It is easy to grasp the basics of this instrument, although it can be played by skilled musicians in complex and virtuoso ways.
