Get Your Folk On!

Cecil Sharp House, London

A creative folk course for 12–19 year olds.

Explore traditional folk music and dance from the British Isles with inspiring professional folk musicians. Choose your sessions, with options to try new skills and instruments, learn and arrange tunes, songs or dances and much more. The course ends with an informal concert for family and friends.

This year we are focusing on the archives of American folk song collector, James Madison Carpenter.  Currently being digitally archived to the Vaughan Williams Memorial Library, his collection contains a wealth of ballads, tunes and other material collected from across UK. We'll be creating our own new and exciting works based on his source recordings and manuscripts, and learning more about his life.

No previous experience of folk dance or music required.

Promoted by EFDSS.
