Who is it for?
This welcoming and inclusive mixed ability class for men and women is equally suitable for people with or without any previous experience of morris dance. No need to bring a partner.
Class content
Morris dance is an energetic, buoyant form of English folk dance performed to lively music in groups or 'sides'. There are many diverse traditions across the country - this class is based on the popular Cotswold tradition in which dancers perform with handkerchiefs and sticks.
Sharp Morris & the Belles of London City
An interest in the classes grew in 2008, an influx of new dancers led to the formation of Sharp Morris (a mixed side), and then to the Belles of London City. Members have normally been dancing at Cecil Sharp House for a number of years before they are invited to join Sharp Morris. Sharp Morris is a member of the Morris Federation.
Tutors and band
The figures and dances are taught by John Russell, a Gentleman of the Beaux of London City Morris, who's been leading the class enthuastically for nearly twenty-five years. See below for John's biography. Regular musicians are Mike Jewitt and Olivia Morrison-Lyons.
