Get Your Folk On!
Get Your Folk On! is EFDSS Education's pilot youth folk music project, which ran with huge success for the first time in February 2011.
'It was the best course I've ever been on, go folk music!' - Get Your Folk On! participant
During the project, twenty-one young people aged 11-19 came from all over London to spend a week playing folk and traditional music, song and dance together at Cecil Sharp House and Primrose Hill School. Over the week participants took part in sessions in folk ensemble playing, folk song, duos and trios playing, clog dancing and songwriting and arranging. Working with folk musicians and tutors Laurel Swift, Ed Hicks and Sarah-Jane Miller, the participants explored new musical experiences in folk together, culminating in a final sharing for family and friends at Cecil Sharp House.
Get Your Folk On! is part of EFDSS's work to advocate for, encourage and support the development of folk music opportunities for young people in different communities and contexts. Our next project will take place in August in partnership with Tower Hamlet's Futureversity. For more details see our Youth page.
