Some information about August's course:
The course will be based on folk and traditional music from the British Isles and beyond. Learning will be mainly by ear so there's no need to read music. For those who haven't learnt by ear before there will be guidance in how to approach this. We will also develop skills specific to folk music including improvisational skills, ornamentation and arrangement ideas.
Every day participants will take part in:
- folk ensemble sessions
- a whole group Big Folk Band
- tune and song-writing sessions
- optional sessions with a choice of: song, clog dance, or duos or trios
Everyone must bring their own instrument, except in the case of absolute beginners (ukuleles and penny whistles supplied), or clog dance (clogs supplied). There will also be some percussion and limited keyboards available.
The week will end with an informal concert of music, song and dance learnt and created during the course to which friends and family can be invited.
