Membership

Join us!

As a member of the English Folk Dance and Song Society, you will be a valued advocate and supporter of the folk arts.

Our new members-only FOLK pin badges serve as a small but significant symbol of their connection to our welcoming membership community.

Types of membership

Individuals can join as Standard Supporter or Practitioner members, with some concessionary options for Supporter membership.

Not ready yet for full membership? Try Starter Individual Membership (without most of the benefits below, but including a pin badge) for only £2 per month.

Group membership is available for clubs, schools, festivals and other folk-related organisations.

Institutional subscriptions are available for agencies, venues, and academic institutions.

Join or renew now

Most of our individual memberships are now eligible for Gift Aid. If you are a UK taxpayer and are able to make a Gift Aid declaration, your membership subscription or donation will be worth an extra 25% to the English Folk Dance and Song Society, at no cost to you.

Publications and JSTOR access

As a full member you will receive regular editions of English Dance and Song magazine – and, if you wish to receive it, the annual scholarly publication Folk Music Journal.

You can now also log in to view both publications in our members-only area. In this area you can also search FMJ content published since 2014; and you can also access JSTOR to view all editions of FMJ and its predecessors.

Insurance

Public Liability Insurance for folk activities is included within Practitioner and Group memberships. Please read our PLI Guidance Notes for details.

Other benefits include

People Dancing online learning programmes

EFDSS member discount: 12%

Brass Bands England safeguarding programme

EFDSS members pay the same special annual rate as BBE members for FolkSafe

Free fundraising for Group members

Our newest partner, easyfundraising, allows your folk club to generate unrestricted donations from online retailers.

A vote at the AGM

Vote on important issues at the EFDSS Annual General Meeting (most voting done by post), for all Standard Indiviual, Practitioner and Starter members.

Music Licensing Advice

We've got advice first hand from PRS for Music and PPL on exactly what our member Groups need to know.
