This year, a specially commissioned EFDSS and WOMAD project will feature on the BBC Radio 3 Charlie Gillett stage on Saturday 26 July at 2pm.
Martin Simpson and Dom Flemons (from the Grammy award winning Carolina Chocolate Drops) will perform new collaborative material rooted in English and American folk traditions that they have created during a short residency at Cecil Sharp House.
They will use the archive collections in the Vaughan Williams Memorial Library at Cecil Sharp House – including Cecil Sharp’s landmark folk music fieldwork notebooks and diaries from his collecting trips in the Appalachian Mountains to examine how the music changed as it travelled from one continent to another.
The WOMAD appearance will be the culmination of the project, following a three-date tour.
